| I assume you mean you are going to Quebec City which is about 2-1/2
hours north of Montreal. I can tell you something about it.
The city has two sections, but by far the favourite is Old Quebec
City located in the City proper. Like much of older parts of Canada
the Old City was a fortress where many significant French-English
battles were fought and the remnants remain today, i.e. the Bilingual
nature of our Country.
The Old City is a walking Tour with little architecture changes
from the original; much evidence of the early French culture and
lots of small intimate French Restaurants with incredible French
Cuisine, boutiques, crafts, etc. It is about a one-day take, but
I am a very poor judge.
Timing-wise early September would be less crowded (after Labor Day)
when the days are still around 70F and the nights chilly; there
is some risk of some crafty things closing or moving after Labor Day.
Can't help you much re lodging, I lived in Montreal when I used
to drive back and forth for the occasional day's visit to Old Quebec,
I would expect after Labor Day that lodging rates would come down
like everywhere else. Car rental is about the same, use your DEC
I.D. for a group rate of about 30$(Can) per day or a better weekly
rate.
I think your best bet (assuming your are in the U.S.) is to contact
the Canadian Embassy or Consulate nearest you and speak to the Tourist
Information office and (usually) they will send you gobbs of info
giving travel info and event schedules for where you want to go.
Bon Voyage
