156.1 | No VTX in Canada | CLOSUS::HOE | toddlin' Sam's daddy | Tue Mar 14 1989 10:04 | 13 |
| Hi Don,
I just talked to personnel in Toronto. They tell me that jobs are
not listed in any files (as in notes) and that VTX is not
availiable since that there are only 3,500 employees across
Canada. I don't know if this is a brush off or not.
My interest was jobs posting and DEC employee policy and
procedures as we can get them on the DEC American network.
I hope this helps.

| There are various VTX libraries available, if you know which page
to request. What exactly do you need?

Hallo,
If you don't have any Vtx, where can we found your jobs posting
in Canada from France.
Eric.

| Hi again,
re: .1 I was not after a Maple Leaf jobs book persay
however, I find the TRO personnel response rather strange given
that both Finland and Sweden have easily accessible jobs books,
so long as you're fluent in Finnish and/or Swedish. Given the
amount of DEC personnel in those countries their arguement seems
kind of spurious, nevertheless I'm sure that whatever system they
use is more than able to do JIT for JOBS - the right people in
the right place at the right time!
re: .2 Presently I'm in an Information Consultant's role
and as such, keeping up with technical, system, network developments
etc. is lively to say the least. Also keeping abreast with standardised
approach to Information Technology, Management and Architectures
is also most rewarding via VTX information within the DIS organisation.
Such news vehicles as VNS and Livewire are again stimulating
and valuable.
The bottom line is, I guess, that DEC Canada appears to be hiding
it's collective light underneath a bushel by not having some form
of VTX information available to all. Let's face it, if the damned
Aussies can do it, why not Canada??
Best Regards,
Don H.

| I agree. I've just joined Digital Canada and would appreciate having
more information online about Canadian policies, jobs, strategies,
etc. I'm sure there must be some Canadian content!

| re: .5
Given the staggering response to this note and the '3500 employees
doesn't warrant a jobs book' personnel response, maybe DEC Canada
has no policies, jobs, strategies etc.

| I have read the replies to this subject with interest. I find it
extremley depressing that DEC Canada have not got their act together
yet with regard to advertising jobs on any system such as VTX. For
DEC to be in a potentially expanding market surely developement
of it's communication network to the rest of the DEC world is of
paramount importance. I would of thought that experienced Decies
from already developed markets of the world be very valuable to
Canada!
I have spent alot of time in Canada over the last ten years
and I am currently looking for an oppotunity to move there. However,
it seems like everyone else I can't access any information about
jobs.
Come on Canada get it sorted!

| Believe it or not, there really is a hiring freeze on here in Canada.
As a result of this, there really aren't any job's to be posted,
unless you can stand on your head, blow bubbles and count beans at
the same time.
Seriously though, sometimes there is a posting or two that shows
up on our bulletin board here, but they are few and far between.
I would reccomend that the best course of action is to develope
one's own channels into the Canadian Personnel department.

| Try contacting....
Stan Lee/Jim Smith at TRO (Toronto Uptown)
Angie Thompson/Jennifer Risdon at TRC (Toronto Downtown)
Barbara Stone at HPO (Hamilton/London/Kitchener)
Denis Gourdeau at MQO (Quebec)
Dave Thomas at CGO (Calgary/Edmonton/Winnipeg/Vancouver)
All are Personnel Managers for their various locations.
As a former Toronto Personnel Manager - I can only comment that
while a Canadian VTX may have some some value from a Business
perspective, not much value would be gained from a Personnel one.
If the Canadian Businessess see no need for the setting up of a
VTX for their needs, its hardly likely Personnel would do so -
especially considering current hiring restraints and difficulty in
recruiting outside of Canada - unless you are a Citizen or Landed
Immigrant.
If anyone is interested in moving to Canada, they'll establish the
contacts they need through other sources - they'll have to!
Hope the contacts help though...
