| Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs the British Columbia Lions.
W 22 BC 21.
According to my father, it's one of the best games he has seen in
the past 10 years.
The game was played in the city of Ottawa, with a great deal of
partying and fanfare occuring the week before. The Ontario Provincial
Government chnaged the liquor laws temporarily in the City Of Ottawa
for that week allowing the bars and disco's to serve and close at
3:00 am instead of the regular 1:00 am. Governor General J. Sauve
was in attendance as the Queens representative. The weather, having
looked bleak all weak and bleaker still for the day of the big game
(forecast was freezing rain changing to snow) turned into one of
the most beautiful sunny days of the past month. The outdoor stadium
was crowded (ie; full). Ticket hawkers, true to Canadian fashion,
were selling off unused tickets at less than the purchase price.
In fact I here that one chap actually gave some tickets away.
It was much of a game, and at least as far as Ottawans are concerned
it was and still is a topic of discussion.

Sounds like it was a lot better than the Super Bowl usually turns
out to be, All hype and not game. A lot like the US Presidential
elections.

| A big 'who cares' to Canadian Football.
The CFL has one more season of existance at best.
Almost every team is in deep financial trouble.
Support from fans is almost non-existant.
Real football is NFL.
I'm looking forward to the day, NFL comes to Toronto in our new
domed stadium.
Grey cup = dirty bra

Ottawa was great last weekend - it was fun to party until the wee
hours in Ontario instead of making the hike to Hull.
It's funny - I was hearing in the US about how free trade was a hot
issue up north, Canadians being concerned about preserving their
independence, identity, etc. But in Ottawa I heard nothing but "it's
the last year for the CFL", "this will be the last Grey Cup", "all the
teams are bankrupt anyways", "the NFL is real football"...
Isn't the CFL uniquely Canadian? Isn't the Grey Cup party a social
tradition in Canada? Wouldn't Canadians lose something if in future
all they'll have to watch is US Superbowls?
Mike.
