I fish for Atlantic Salmon in Canada and would like to start a discussion with others who have fished/do fish for Salmon. I try to get a week on a Canadian salmon river every year and have been to the following Provinces/rivers; Newfoundland 1981 River of Ponds, St.Genivieve Quebec 1984 Matane Quebec 1985 Matane Nova Scotia 1986 St.Mary's, Margaree Quebec 1988 Matane While my success has not been great, averaging only one salmon per trip...I have enjoyed every minute spent in Canada ! I really like the attitude, the environment, and the people. My success with salmon is much better here in Maine where I live/work, but I'd still rather fish in Canada. Any other salmon anglers reading this notesfile ?

132.1 | Try Nass Valley in B.C. | TRCO01::SANDHU | Interglactic Gargleblaster | Mon Nov 21 1988 10:38 | 16 |
May I suggest fishing out in God's country, the Beautiful British Columbia's Nass Valley. The Nass river flows just north of Prince Rupert on the West Coast. Look up Kitimat on the map, you can't miss it. I had a summer job with the Fed. govt. there (Fisheries and Oceans), and managed to get in some fishing. I also worked at a fish ladder on the Nass river. I can ensure it probably has amongst the biggest salmon runs in Canada. The whole area is very sparsely populated, the odd native indian village here and there, in the summer there are mostly americans and german visitors. The best thing to do is take a Winnebago, pack up the whole family and spend a month there. Aside from the fishing, the natural beauty and landscape is breath-taking. No other words to describe it.

132.3 | Owen Sound is Awesome! | KAOOA::COUTTS | Thu Oct 24 1991 15:33 | 14
May I suggest Owen Sound on lake Huron (Georgian Bay) for Chinnook Salmon (also called Spring or King Salmon). It has been rated as the best Salmon fishing in Canada and possibly the best Rainbow fishing in the world. I have fished it myself a number of times very succesfully (limit in 1-2 days of fish in excess of 5-25lbs). I was introducd to this fishing by a friend of mine who works as a Fisheries Biologist for The Ministry of Natural Resources. He was introduced to it by two of his friends who are Fisheries Biologists for MNR. It's kinda like going to a Suishi Bar and seeing Japanese people eating there... You know that the suishi must be good! Best Reagrds, Duncan |
