I need a very cheep place to stay, but not to scummy looking.
> What are you looking fore in your visit, is it your first time?
Yes, this is my first time. This is why I am asking for detail info.

Here I go again!

The Journey's end Motel will offer double occupancy for 54.88 (south
shore of Montral) or 56.88 (in Pointe-Calire, west end of Montral).
These establishment do not offer the convenience of easy (read
fast) downtown access. The Wandlyn Motor inn (east end of Montral
7200 Sherbrooke east) offers double occupancy at 87.50 a night.
It is nicely located near major highway, in front of a shopping
mall, beside an Harvey's fast food restaurant. Very close to the
Olympic stadium. It is also locate BESIDE A SUBWAY station. That
station will carry you, for $1.00 right smac in the middle of downtown
in 15 minutes. No need to park the car, no nees to get caught in
traffic.
Both establishement are O.K.
As pleasant as possible please. (ACCESS ROUTE)
In my opinion, the CHAMPLAIN BRIDGE, or the VICTORIA BRIDGE will
provide the best view of the city. Try to avoid taking the bridge
at ruch hour 06h00 to 09h30 weekdays.
Yes, this is my first time. This is why I am asking for detail info.
You'll want to
- See Mont-Royal, the mountain in the middle of the city
- Westmount, the richest neighbourhoud in the city, located on the
mountain.
- Ste-Catherine Street, from Atwater(west of it) to Complexe Desjardins
(east of it). It is the main street of MTL.
- Old Montreal, with the old port, take a sight seeing cruise in
the olp port, nice perspective of the city.
- Catch a Hockey game or a rock concert at LE Forum de Montreal.
- A nice show at La Place Des Arts.
- Dine on Duluth or Prince-Arthur street.
- Spend a night on Saint-Denis street for a caf atmosphere.
- Spend a night on Crescent street for crusing bar...
- See the Olympic stadium, and ride up the tower, the view is....
- Many museums
- The Montreal underground, with shopping mall etc...
Need any more info

Thanks. You mean I get on 495 then 95 then 91 then 55 then 10. The
alternative is of course 90 then 91 then 55 then 10. I assume the
first choice is shorter?

| Eugene,
You don't need to go anywhere near 95. Coming from Worcester, take 290 to
495 to 3 to the Everett Turnpike (no number) to 293 to 93 through Franconia
Notch to 91 to 55 then 10.
Getting on 91 anywhere south of St. Johnsbury takes you further west than
you need to go.

| Take a loook at rt 89....to the border
it runs at an angle and is a nice scenic road and sh/be
less mileage than going straight up and then accross.

| RT 89 is teeming with cops, I like 93-91 because it is less traveled
than 89, thus less policemen and I think the scenery is better.
Now the REAL reason, I usualy come down 89 and go back up the other way
and it's mainly because I forget to turn left at the 93 to 89 junction.

111.11 | no wonder you missed it! | AIMTEC::BURDEN_D | No! Your *other* right! | Thu Jul 05 1990 12:59 | 7 |
| Nit, you turn right to get from 93 north to 89 north. It's just a
rather long right hand turn....
Also, 89 is mostly 65 mph, while 93 drops down to 45 or so through the
notch.

| Now I am really confused. I thought 93 is at least 55 all the way. I
checked 89, but when 89 runs into Canada, it turns into some back ally
road 133 (I think).

| re .12
Correct. When 89 gets to Canada, you start having to go through several
small towns.
93 is 65 except through Concord. However, through the notch, 93 ends, and
you are on the "Franconia Notch Parkway" which is 45 for about 8 miles, but
is still limited access.
This discussion exists, at length, in some other topic in this conference,
including the fact that the 93 route is faster than the 89 route, though
it may be about 5-10 miles further. 89 isn't much shorter when you take
a good look at it, because it twists and turns through the White River
valley.

111.16 | How about I-90 then I-87!!! | HDLITE::ALJAAR | | Fri Jul 06 1990 19:43 | 14 |
| Hi;
Another alternative would be to go on I-90 towards Albany, NY, and then
take I-87 north all the way into Montreal. Although it may seem far stretched,
it is my preferrable way. In fact, I have taken other roads, but this *seems* to
be the shortest and the most pleasant. It takes about 6 hours from Auburn to
Montreal. Besides, it is the easiest, and you are all the way on the highway. No
turns, no small towns to go through, and you go right straight into Montreal!
Try it, you'll love it...
Bon Voyage!
Robi.

111.17 | No waiting at the I-91/55 border, either... not true at 87! | COVERT::COVERT | John R. Covert | Sat Jul 07 1990 01:59 | 11 |
| Well, since it's four hours, thirty minutes from the NH/Mass Border to
Montreal via the 3/ETpk/293/93/FNPkwy/93/91/55/10 route, which also has
no turns, no small towns, and takes you right into Montreal, and since
it's less than one hour from Auburn to the NH/Mass Border on 290/495/3,
and since the total tolls are only $1.50, I don't think 90/87, with its
high tolls, extra half hour and heavy traffic is worth it.
And it's _certainly_ not worth it from anywhere closer to 93, such as
Marlboro, Boston, Acton, Nashua, etc.

111.18 | Lodging along the route | FSOA::WSUKERNEK | | Mon Aug 26 1991 10:45 | 11 |
| This weekend, I'm going back to Montreal for the first time in seven years
since I graduated from McGill. I certainly have the route down pat based on
the previous discussion. :)
I'd like to stay at an inn on Friday night somewhere along the route (I91
or I93) that's within two hours of Montreal. Hopefully, the place will be
quaint and inexpensive.
Sorry for the short notice,
Warren

| I can recommend an _expensive_ inn two hours and fifteen minutes from
Montreal -- the Rabbit Hill Inn in Lower Waterford, Vermont. 802 748-5168.
It is right off I-93 at the Vermont/NH border. Northbound, you would get
off I-93 at the last exit in NH and use state highway 18. In the morning,
you would continue north on 18 to the first entrance in Vermont.
With a gourmet dinner and breakfast for two, expect to spend $200ish.
Once an inexpensive inn, it was bought about five years ago while not even
for sale by a couple from New York who wanted an inn so badly they made
the former owners an offer they could not refuse. The new innkeepers found
out after nine months that they were not cut out for innkeeping and sold
the inn again, but with the new mortgage, the inn is no longer $60/night!
However, it has been, for the past few years, rated by "Uncle Ben's Rice"
as the number one country inn in North America. A rating it deserves.

Ok, if I follow the directions in .17 from Nashua to
Montreal.....once I get *into* Montreal..
Can anyone tell me how to get to the Best Western Int'l
Hotel at the airport in Dorval? Address is 13000
Cote de Liesse (sp).
I can call the hotel if I have to but thought I'd give
this a shot first.....
Thanks!
