78.0. "Canadian pavilion best at World Expo in Brisbane" by POTARU::COUPAL (Professional wrestling in Olympics) Sat Jun 25 1988 08:18
Felicitation au pays !
I visited the Canadian pavilion at World Expo 88 in Brisbane
last week. It was the best of the whole exhibition !!
They had two very good films on typical, unpretentious Canadian
scenes, the presentors were very nice (and bilingual, in case
it matters), there was an excellent family comedy stage show
while you'd queue to get in, in short it was simply the most
enjoyable pavilion !
Only poor experience was the so-called Canadian restaurant,
which claimed local food. Obviously, they didn't bother
importing Canadian recipes, let alone foods (maple syrup extract,
etc. huahh). Service was also so-and-so.
What impressed the locals the most about Canada was ice fishing,
as usual (remember Queensland, where Expo is held, averages
70F in their winter). They may also have been misled about
bilingualism: they now think here that *everyone* in the country
speaks both languages ...
