76.1 | Who moved those lakes, eh? | KAOA01::CURZON | Richard Curzon TRS 5/2 | Mon Jun 06 1988 19:14 | 20 |
| Nova Scotia: First, you should do the Cabot trail around Cape Breton Island.
There's also the Annapolis Valley along the north shore of mainland
N.S., and some picturesque stuff along the south shore in the fishing
villages from Halifax, to Yarmouth.
Tourist credentials are earned by visiting the lighthouse
at Peggy's Cove near Halifax -- and by coming home with a Lobster trap.
If I were visiting, I would look for a fiddling and stepdancing
event, the one I saw at a Dartmouth high school was great.
PEI: Highlight might well be a Sunday night Lobster dinner at a village
church, if you can find one. You will probably see posters around
advertising them. I remember there was a great one at St Anne's
church near Cavendish beach.
Tourist points are earned here by visiting Anne of Green Gables
homestead -- and PEI is known for its potato farming and red dirt;
the best view of that is from the air, if you fly in during the
sunshine hours.
The great lakes are much farther east... you have to get well into Ontario
before you see those guys.
Enjoy your trip!

| Actually, I should clarify my note a bit. The Nova Scotia and
PEI trip is part of a 4 week trip. I start in W.Va. and go up to
Michigan then I may go across to Maine by the Canadian side, that's
where the great lake info comes in. Sorry for the confusion.
I did think of a second question as well. What type of weather
should I expect in those areas around the end of July and into August?
Any bug problems or other area specific info?
Thanks, Sher.

76.3 | All sorts of info from $$ to free | CLOSUS::HOE | Colorado's the place to be. | Tue Jun 07 1988 13:01 | 14 |
| Though we weren't looking for Nova Scotia information, we found
that when we wrote the provincial ministries of tourism for British
Columbia and Alberta, we got a big packet of information about
campsites and fees. Also, the Automobile Association has booklets
about area campsites. Woodall Camping (area specific) and Mobile
Oil travel books are a wealth of information. You may want to
look at which one is organized to your liking. We found that
cheap is not better since you have to dig for info in dozen
places within a book sometimes.
Lastly, campsites may have reservations; after 5 pm, they usually
give up some of the reservations to cash paying customers.

| you won't have to worry about too many bugs in late summer but take
a sweater for those trips to the shore and late evenings . Try to
avoid the PEI ferry on friday afternoons or long weekends. Stock
up on local beer.

76.5 | more info sounds fishy! | ATSE::BROWN | | Wed Jun 08 1988 16:58 | 14 |
| As Brian has indicated late summer sometimes equates to warm clothing.
Also bring wet gear as even the ever persistent fog can get you damp
and uncomfortable. In Nova Scotia(the southern end) the weather
USUALLY is the same as Boston, just a day later. I have seen hot/humid
days in August as well as cool days. The lobster season will be closed
down but lobsters will be available for a price in the restaurants.
Try the Rappie pie(potato/pork/salted cod) its pretty good.
The salt water bays and rivers should have Mackeral and some Blues
running if your interested in salt water fishing send me mail and
I'll indicate where to go fishing in the Yarmouth area. Also if
youre interested there are some nice(cheap) souveneir(sp?) stores
in Yarmouth.

76.6 | Can you say Kejimkujik ? | TRCO01::FINNEY | Keep cool, but do not freeze... | Mon Aug 08 1988 12:29 | 16 |
| Take a trip into Kejimkujik National Park.
Hiking, Overnight camping, Overnight (or over weekend, overweek)
canoeing.
You can (no kidding) feed deer from your hand (apples). Last summer,
my wife and I counted 23 deer from fawns to bucks in one 2 1/2 hr
period. This doesn't include seeing two different families (Momma,
fawn, & spike buck = 1st || Momma, & 2fawns = 2nd) more than three
times.
In this recent hot weather, campfires may not be allowed. If you
are not the "true" rough-it type, there are parking and hook-up
facilities for your Winnibego
Scooter

| Why do you want to buy Nova Scotian land? Where do you intend to ship
it once it is dug up? Under the Free Trade Agreement, you can't ship
dirt across the Canada-USA border unless it has been sterilized and
placed in hermetically-sealed containers (Trojans, etc.).

Because it's fresh ground every morning! HAHAHAHA!
Pat, I think you've unnearthed a can of worms here.
Where do you dig up your jokes? And why do you soil our minds with
them?
Now, lets not get into any mud slinging here.
Got to shovel off,

Are you a Canadian citizen? I seem to remember some years ago that
they passed a law to prevent U.S. citizens from buying and owning land.
