66.0. "may move to Toronto." by FSTVAX::QUIROGA (Arturito) Wed Apr 27 1988 11:31
My wife and I may move to the Toronto area, either in july or
september, it's still up in the air.
As of now, I think we'll spend one or two years in the area, I have
some questions:
Is Toronto a safe place to live?? , I have visited Montreal, Ottawa,
Quebec, and all are very nice cities, and fairly safe.
What is the standard of living in Toronto??, with this I mean, What
is the considered a good salary??.
We will have to rent a place, are there any nice appartment complexes,
condominiums in the downtown area??. what is the average amount
they ask for rent??. Are there any houses for rent??.
Is it necessary to have a car??, or is public transportation
sufficient??.
Both my wife and I are Mexicans, and presently living in New England.
Thanks for your input.

| Is Toronto a safe place to live?? I would say "YES" considering
the size of 2.5 million plus.
What is a good salary?? Depends really on what you consider a good
salary, ie: do you require a swimming pool, a V8 engine in your
car, a new suit every 2 weeks?? A better question would be what
is the average salary. I'm not sure of that, but I would think that
it would be fairly high.
Nice appartments?? There are alot of nice buildings both in the
downtown core and in the burbs. The only problem is find a vacancy.
Toronto has less than 1% vacancy, so good luck. The average $ for
an appartment is $800-$1200 for a 2 bedroom in downtown.
You won't need a car if you plan on living and working downtown.
Our transit system is very good, one of the best in North America
I believe. If you should wish to travel you may wish to buy or rent a car.
Welcome to Toronto and I hope your stay is a good long one!
