60.0. "The Windsor Note" by INFACT::SCHWARTZ (Like a Phoenix) Wed Mar 30 1988 11:12
Okay, everybody!
Here's just what you've been waiting for...
...the Windsor Note!
Yes, public demand in the Sarnia Note has left me no choice but to start a
Windsor note.
Having grown up in Toledo in the late 60's and early 70's, Windsor stands out
as the home of:
C e e K a y E l l D o u b l e - Y e w ! ! !
also known as:
T H E B I G E I G H T
Yes, CKLW was THE place to hear all the Top-40 sounds of the latter 60's,
especially the MOTOWN sounds! To this very day, I still have in my possession
the "CKLW's Greatest Hits, Volume 2" album, which I sent away for back in 1971.
Why listen to Toledo stations? Or Cleveland? Or Detroit? Those stations were
for nurds! People who were in-the-groove listened only to CKLW.
~~~~~~
Another memory I have of Windsor was a time in high school when we all took a
field trip to the theatre in Stratford, Ontario. After a long weekend, we were
finally on our way back home late one Sunday night. We had some beer or some
other contraband in the trunk of our car which we'd rather Customs didn't find.
As we pulled into the little station, the Guard asked our driver: "What country
are you from?" to which our driver responded "Uh....United States???" We
thought it was all over, but the guard just rolled his eyes and waved us on...
+++++++
And last, but not least, what discussion of Windsor would be complete without
the mention of:
o * o * o * o * o *
* o
o J A S O N ' S *
* o
o * o * o * o * o *
Since it's been about 14 years since I've been in Windsor, I have only heard of
this establishment. I'll let those with first-hand knowledge discuss it.
Russ Schwartz.
60.1 | Jason's is, in fact, famous | DEBIT::NEWMAN | This is one of my lucid moments. | Wed Mar 30 1988 12:37 | 9 |
| Jason's must be world famous. Shortly after I relocated to Mass.
I was sitting in my cubicle minding my own business (but, nevertheless
exceeding my job description), when I overhead a woman in the next
cubicle talking about Jason's. It took me a while to verify that
it was THE Jason's, but I did manage to confirm it. I gather that
she was attending a MAP conference in Detroit and that at least
one trip to Jason's was a mandatory part of the conference.
Scott (who has only been to Jason's once)
