| The personnel manager in the Toronto Skyway office is Barbara Stone
(DTN: 631-4010). I am not aware of any R&D positions in Toronto,
however there are likely consulting positions open in Software Services.
Good Luck !

| Go a few more times to Toronto and make sure that's wgere you want
to live and work. Personally, I love Toronto but I'm not so sure
I'd want to work there.
First of all, there is a different pace to Toronto than in Maynard.
It is more akin to working IN Boston or even New York. Second,
Digital has a tougher road to hoe up there than down in the US.
We have not made the same type of splash as far as I can discern.
(When I told my Canadian friends I worked for Digital, most of them
frowned and told me that I must be crazy. In fairness, most of my
friends in the systems field are in major Canadian banks.)
If you still decide that that is where you'd like to live, good
luck. It is a very metropolitan city.

Re. -1
I like the city as a whole, I am more concern about the
general business climate. Working in a city is fine with
me, if I could grow up in a city like Hong Kong, Toronto
is not such a big deal. It still have a lot of charm,
please take a good look at Boston, over price real estate
market, bad traffic etc.
Do I have to pay 100K for a one bedroom condo in Toronto ?
Do driver left turn in the right hand lane ?
Do you have a 5 sq foot hole on the express way ?
Do you have people going 25 on a 45 Highway ?
Some part of the city is just a big joke.
Job market wise, I am more into application development than
system field. Software service seems to me is a good place
to start. As long as some one buy our mechine, they need our
service.
Please tell me I am dreaming.

>> Do I have to pay 100K for a one bedroom condo in Toronto ?
Well, not $100K U.S...
Actually, housing in Toronto is _very_ tight; about 0.01%
vacancy for apartments, condos and "real" houses are prices
similarly. I think we could fit you up with something a little
larger than 1 bedroom, though, for $100,000. Send me a cheque...
Note that this remark applies mostly to the downtown area;
depending on how far you want to commute, prices drop accordingly.
Note that living in the "suburbs" could mean an hour or more
commute each way, during rush hour. Depending upon where you
live and where you work, rapid transit can be lot better than
driving.
>> Do driver left turn in the right hand lane ?
Boston has no monopoly on idiots. However, more Boston idiots
have cars :-)
>> Do you have a 5 sq foot hole on the express way ?
In general, I have found the roads in Canada to be in considerably
better condition than equivalent motorways in the States. Michigan's
potholes offer some of the best fishing in the state.
The other side of the coin, however, is that each summer about half
of the highway mileage in Ontario is closed for repair. Somehow,
it's always between where you are and where you want to be.
>> Do you have people going 25 on a 45 Highway ?
Well, not often. Our highways have 100 kph (60mph) speed limits;
usually, the guy behind you makes you feel guilty if that's the
best you can do.
Cheers,
Ian S.

I don't know why people would frouwn when you say that you work
for DIGITAL, when I say I work for DIGITAL, people usually crowd around
me.
But then again, I work in Ottawa, where 99.9% of the population
is government employed.

I think I could live with that. The 100K is within 45 min
drive from hart of Boston (that include traffic jam because
that is part of the living).
Currently I live in Everett(15 min from Boston) and work in
Maynard. So I live in town and work in the out side, I drive
1 hour to work, 45 min I am sitting in traffic before I got
on the highway, once I was on, it took me 15 min to get to
my office.
I have been in Toronato traffic jam, it is not so bad.
Thank for the inside information.
Keep it coming because I need them

Sorry to question this, but I live downtown and have been
shopping for two years. $100,000 will only buy you a
700 square foot condominium, MAYBE if your lucky. (bachelor
style).
If you can find me something downtown that has two bedrooms
for 100,000, I've got a cheque for you :-)
>> Do you have a 5 sq foot hole on the express way ?
I've been around the world and we *do* have excellent highways.
Among the best...people just don't know how to use them...
see topic CANADIAN DRIVERS :-)
>> Do you have people going 25 on a 45 Highway ?
We have people going 40 kilometres on a 100 kph highway...
see topic CANADIAN DRIVERS :-)
