1307.0. "LINK-3-TOOBIG messages on Ethernet Interface" by GIDDAY::LEUNG () Thu May 15 1997 04:34

Brouter90T V11.1(8)

Customer is seeing these messages on 2 of these brouters on remote sites
connected through Frame Relay.
"Show version" says V11.1(8). But I could not find any reference to released
version of V11.1(8) for Decbrouters. Did the customer put a Cisco router
image on the brouter?

Thanks
Dennis

1307.1Check your Serial Interface MTU SizeFOUNDR::SHEEHANFri May 16 1997 11:1540

 Hi Dennis,

I'd suspect that the MTU size is larger than the default setting of
1500 on the Serial interface connected to the Frame Relay Network.
If this is the case then change the MTU on the routers on both sides
of the WAN link to 1500.

Use SHOW INTERFACE command to check

Router# show int e 0
Ethernet0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Lance, address is 0800.2bb3.fa5e (bia 0800.2bb3.fa5e)
  Internet address is 39.5.5.30/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000 Kbit, DLY 1000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255

Router# show int s 0
Serial0 is up, line protocol is down
  Hardware is MK5025
  Internet address is 2.2.2.1/24
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 64 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec, rely 255/255, load 1/255

If the above is not the case then please send a WRITE TERM output from
the router as well as SHOW INTERFACE and SHOW VERSION

Now as far as 11.1(8) is concearned... This kit was never made available
from Digital for the DECbrouter. So if they are running an IOS they
copied from another Cisco router then please explain to them this is not
recomended by Digital and will not be Supported if problems arise. If they
need a version 11.1 image tested and blessed for the DECbrouter then we
can provide that for them. The current 11.1 kit being released is 11.1(6)
although we have 11.1(10) available as well.

 Regards...

RE: .1

Hi Neil,

The MTU looks ok on the interfaces. Please find below the running configuration
and also the running version. They have V11.1(8) on the brouter and could it be
the cause of these messages?

Thanks
Dennis

Hi Neil,

Customer have now loaded Brouter V11.1(6) image onto the brouters but is still
seeing the same error messages, LINK-3-TOOBIG.
Should I IPMT it?

Cheers
Dennis
