We have a difficult situation to explain why DECnet perform badly than other protocols such as IP over Frame Relay when using DECbrouter. We understand the problem is not on the DECbrouter because we ever tested it with Cisco router 2501 and RouteAbout Access EW. The test is conducted by using Pathwork file transfer between two PC on each end. The network connection is created by Frame Relay circuit using two routers (either DECbrouter or Cisco 2501 or RouteAbout). We found the file transfer of 2MB file cannot saturate the 64k Frame Relay circuit but IP with larger frame size can. Nevertheless, RouteAbout is doing a little better than DECbrouter and Cisco. Could anyone kindly explain the protocol limitation of DECnet in more technical details because I'm not an expert in DECnet. Thanks in advance, cf

Hi cf, From what I've been told... This is the nature of Cisco's implemention of DECnet routing over a Frame Relay circuit. However newer code may be more efficient. What version of the IOS are you running? Neil Sheehan NPB/NSTG Router Support |
