938.0. "rpg relink necessary with delta time bug?" by MKTCRV::MANNERINGS () Fri May 16 1997 09:27

A customer has just rung who has just been notified of the delta time
bug in ovms. This is causing him a lot of work, and he wants to know if
he will have to relink migration rpg, which is real antique software.
Knowing this will save him a lot of time and help him get the rest of
the work done. What is the position. The only references I can find to
this are over 5 years old. Is there anyone around who might know the
    answer?

You should be asking in the VMS Notes Conference.

938.2No re-link for MRPGSPSEG::PLAISTEDSubspace Gaseous AnomalyFri May 16 1997 14:4214
The RPG language only deals with ABSOLUTE times. Migration RPG does no
conversions except call LIBRTL to get the ABSOLUTE time and some output
reformatting depending on the directives in the program, ie display dd-MMM-yyy
as mm/dd/yy.

In a nutshell, if all the .EXEs are are Migration RPG, then there is no re-link
of the application. And there is no re-link of the product either.

If there is a mixture to other languages, notably MACRO subroutines, then
further analysis will be necessary.

So back to the black stuff...

RE:.1

collision

Don't bother asking in the VMS notes conference. They won't have the insight.
They would be looking at the issue bottom-up. This is more a top-down issue and
since I used to work with the products in question and have been bitterly
embroiled with the 10K issue (I'm in UNIX for crying out loud!!) the answer has
been posted in .3.

Sorry, my sense of humour is engaged and some may not know that by reading the
above.
