Hello all ! I have a customer that has a VS3100 model 76 running OpenVMS V6.1 and he wants to buy an RZ28 because he needs more disk space. Do you know if it will work ? If so, what will be the prereqs (firmware,OS version,etc...) ? Any hint will be very apreciated. Best regards, Maurcio. PS.: Cross-posted in the ask-ssag conference.

4367.1 | Local System Disk? No. Otherwise? Maybe... | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Thu May 08 1997 16:47 | 13 |
The RZ28 is not officially supported on the VAXstation 3100 series. Any disk larger than 1.073 GB will not operate as a locally-accessed system disk on any member of the VAXstation 3100 series, as there can be severe problems while attempting bootstrap, and there can be serious disk data corruptions if one does manage to get a disk larger than 1.073 GB booted. Do not attempt this configuration. One may be able to get the RZ28 to work as a directly-connected data disk on the VAXstation 3100 series. One can also downline-load (satellite bootstrap) the VAXstation 3100 series off disks larger than 1.073 GB -- it's the direct local SCSI access that is trouble. | |||||
