I'm attempting to resurrect a VAXstation 4000-96 which had been stripped of memory and disks (so I've probably installed something wrong). I'm getting an "F2" (hex) on the LEDS almost immediately, and no self-test output. Does anyone know what this means? Is there a list of these codes somewhere? We've got several of these boxes, and I'm sure we'll want to know in the future. Is there any hardware doc for these online? Thanks, John Saunders DECdns Engineering

I do not have these codes but check the memory SIMMs carefully. You will need FOUR SIMMs and they must be installed in the correct slots. The VAX station firmware cannot powerup without some good memory present, the disk will not matter. Without good memory there are no error printouts other than LEDs that I know of. MV3100-85 and above or VAX 4000-nn do not require any memory to get normal error printouts. Harold | |||||

If the 4 simms are next to each other, you have them in wrong. You need to look down on the right hand side of the simm sockets to see which row is for bank 0 or 1. jim |
