Hi, I have a customer using MicroVAX 3100-95 running VMS 5.52-H4 with the following hardware configuration. Built-in SCSI with five internal RZ28-E KZDDA SCSI connects to BA350 storage shelf with RZ28-VA x 3 and TLZ06-VA x 2 Now, the customer wants to replace all the RZ28-E and -VA by RZ29B. I would like to know will the final config be supported. (in case of necessary, the blowers on BA350 will be replaced by 2X blowers) If not supported, then will it work ? Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance, Jimmy Wong - HKMCS

4360.1 | 2 MAX RZ29B's in system box | PROXY::J_EVANS | Wed Apr 16 1997 11:03 | 12
Jimmy, We didn't test the model 95 but the 96 was tested and it's just a clock tweek. The MAX RZ29B's that are allowed in the system box is 2. One other RZ28 is allowed in there. They should be placed on the top row with the two 29B's mounted in the left and middle location. The two bottom slots can have a CD or tape. jim
4360.2 | RZ40? | XDELTA::HOFFMAN | Steve, OpenVMS Engineering | Wed Apr 16 1997 11:16 | 6 |
If the customer is looking for capacity, consider the 9 GB RZ40. (Realize that V5.5-2H4 does not support disks larger than 8.5 GB, however -- one must upgrade to V6.0 or later. V7.1 is current.) The RZ40 will likely have the same -- or yet more restrictive -- thermal limits found on the RZ29.
