Hi, A customer of mine has a BA350 with 2*RZ29's and 2 *RZ28's installed which is connected to a 4000-100.At VMS level the Drives are seen as Generic SCSI devices do I need to upgrade the firmware for the drives to be seen as RZ29 or RZ28's ? . Thanks in Advance Brendan.

The "generic" label is common when the necessary device information was not built into the OpenVMS kernel. The SCSI device recognition mechanism was changed at V6.2, and in V6.2 and later, OpenVMS now queries the drive for its name. As for whether or not you need to upgrade the firmware in the RZ29 drives, you'll need to ask that of the folks that keep track of the current RZ firmware releases. You'll also want to check and see if the BA350 enclosure has been updated to support the RZ29 drives -- this configuration may (will?) result in overheating problems. (There was an upgrade kit for this purpose that included new fans and some foam pieces: BA35X-MJ.) |
