4150.0. "SWL process keeps dying on regular basis" by CSC32::D_BUTLER () Tue Apr 15 1997 15:26

    I am trying to support a site whose SWL process keeps dying.

        The application goes into a RWMBX state when the SWL process dies.
If the customer does a restart of the swl process the application apparently
recovers.

        For now I have suggested that when this next occurs go into SWLUP
and renew the log. Save a copy of the log file in which the last events
were the SWL process dying.

        Errors found to date indicate an EXC problem but I am uncertain if
these are actually associated with the SWL process death. That is why I am
suggesting the action above.

	ACMS-EXC-EXCINTERR
	ACMSWSP-E-INTERR

	I cannot tie these back directly to the SWL process death.

    	The accounting file should contain the last status of the SWL
    process when it died.

    	SWL will also abort if it runs out of disk space. When SWL dies,
    the other ACMS processes will hang once their mailbox fills with
    messages.

    	What type of Alpha is this?

4150.2Relocating swl.log to another driveCSC32::D_BUTLERTue Apr 15 1997 19:056
    I have asked tham to relocate the SWl log using the logical name
    acms$swl_log to another drive. But the fact that ACMS_SWL process
    is deleted puzzles me. I will try and get what cpu type next time,
    probably tomorrow.

    	SWL will abort if it runs out of space. I'm going to look
    	at fixing that for the next release.

    	The accounting file will have the final status.
4150.4Thanks - relocated swl.log CSC32::D_BUTLERWed Apr 16 1997 13:557
    Thanks,
    		I will keep track of the customer. No call today so far.
    I am just hoping that the relocation of swl.log will solve his
    problem. Also he is now into checking swl.log instead of just
    doing a daily renew.
