4124.0. "TWS_POOLSIZE crashes ALPHA" by TAV02::GODOVNIK (Haim Godovnik) Mon Mar 17 1997 08:14

Hi,

VMS 6.2 Alpha 8400
ACMS 4.0

The customer ran out of TWS_POOLSIZE. They raised TWS_POOLSIZE to 64000.
Starting the application causes a system crash with :

                  PGFIPLHI, Pagefault with IPL too high

The current process is ACMS01EXC001000 and you can see that it had exhausted
all the p0 adress space (First free P0 address = 7FF..... ,
                         Free PTEs between P0/P1 = 0).
The acmsgen parameters are:

When TWS_POOLSIZE is set to 32000 everything works o.k. but only about 300 users
can login to ACMS. They need to double the number of users.

Is there a limit on TWS_POOLSIZE?

The bugcheck dump is about 700000 blocks but it can be made available on the net

Thanks ,

4124.1Check for SYSGEN parameters setup properlyACMS::HALLBill Hall - ACMS Engineering - ZKO2-2Mon Mar 17 1997 08:459

    	When they changed the parameter, did they also run AUTOGEN to add
    more GBLPAGES and GBLPAGFIL? The formulas are in
    SYS$MANAGER:ACMSPARAM.COM.

    	Also, if they are really running ACMS V4.0 on the 8400, it is not
    supported. OpenVMS V6.2 requires ACMS V4.1.

4124.2TAV02::GODOVNIKHaim GodovnikWed Mar 19 1997 02:3817

Bill,

1. They run autogen.

Global pages are 6413200 pagelets. GBLPAGFIL is 260000 pages.

2. I know 4.0 is unsuported on 6.2 and I have asked them to upgrade to
   4.1. Is this problem fixed in 4.1?

Is there a released ACMS version for VMS 7.1 on ALPHA?

Thanks ,

Haim G.

    	How much physical memory does the system have? The reason
    	we say V4.0 is not supported on V6.2 is that it was never
    	tested. As new versions of VMS come out, we do not go back
    	to older versions of ACMS and test them. We target specific
    	versions of ACMS to specific versions of OpenVMS. ACMS V4.1
    	supports OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2 - V6.2 and OpenVMS Alpha V6.1-V6.2.
    	ACMS V4.2 will add support for OpenVMS V7.1 (OpenVMS V7.0 will
    	never be supported). Since no one has reported this problem
    	before, there is nothing to fix.

Bill,

Thanks for Your help.
I also tried to reproduce their problem on VMS 6.1 (Alpha) and ACMS 4.1.
I had no problems to start the AVERTZ application with their values for
poolsizes.
I hope they will upgrade to 4.1. If they will have problems in 4.1 I will
IPMT it.

Thanks again,

Haim G.

    	4.1 will not change anything. No work was done in that area. The
    code in question does a create/map global section. If they can write
    a program that calls the same service with the size they require and
    VMS crashes, then it's a VMS problem.
