4110.0. "ACC crashes - 4.0-2" by CSC32::B_SHAW () Wed Feb 26 1997 09:58

ACMS 4.0-2 DECFORMS 1.4-13 VMS 6.2 NETWORK OSI ECO6

The customer's ACC seems to be crashing regularly. Log file point to a
network issue just prior to ACC disappearing.

Unfortunately, no dumps were taken.

Is there any known problems with ACC and network link aborts?

Thanks,

Bob.

Some additional information.

1. It appears that the FE nodes which had links to this ACC were shutdown

2. DECnet is shutdown before the applications are shutdown on the FEs

My customer has the same versions as Bob's.
He has a series of fe's (which can also act
as a be for some apps), and a system which
just acts as a be.

When the be is shutdown the ACC on the fe's
occasionally die with this error. They all
have links to the be when it goes down.

To the best of their knowledge this has not
happened between the remote system fe's when
one is acting as a be.

Any ideas? Known problem?

Thanks
Simon

I still haven't got anywhere with this error. But the customer
did send some more information which may, or may not be, pertinent.

On Saturday Acms is taken out of the central processors. It is usually put back
in on Sunday if requested by Branch users. However this Sunday a standalone
backup was to be performed. When the System was taken down at around 10:00
a number of Branch sites rang in to say that they were hanging.

When we checked the remote systems the ACC process was still in. We stopped and
started acms at the Branch site and they worked o.k.

When we checked Swlup at the Branch sites what appears to be happening is;

1. Backend Central processor has ACMS stopped.
2. Frontend Branch processor requests Central Task.
3. Error returned to branch, Central acc not available.
4. Processing at Branch continues.
5. Backend Central processor shutsdown.
6. Frontend Branch acms system hangs.
7. Frontend Branch Acms stop/started.
8. Frontend Branch users sign on and process.

This problem differs from the acc process going out. In that scenario the
connection between backend and frontend is cut. In this scenario the connection
is never made, but affects the Backend the same way.

We have had several reports of ACC and/or CP's crashing when
another node goes down when DECnet/OSI is being used. It is
    currently being investigated.

    	Simon,

Please verify and post the version/eco # for OpenVMS and
DECnet/OSI. Are they using just plain DECnet/OSI or
    	DECnet/OSI over TCP/IP.

According to the SPD, ACMS V4.0-2 is not supported on
OpenVMS V6.2. Any fixes that are necessary will be in
the current shipping rev, ACMS V4.2.
