4098.0. "ACMS V4.1 server/ ACMS V3.3 client issue" by TPLAB::LEEMANS () Fri Feb 07 1997 10:55

    We have a European Acquisition system called EUPES, which is a client/server
    application.

    You can have 2 different architectures :

      a. both the client and the server on the same system.

      b. the client on a different system as the server.

    We are now testing the migration from DECStep V6 (VMS V6.1) to
    SEPS97 (VMS V6.2).

    Due to ACMS problems, we had to recompile and relink the application
    software to be able to run it a SEPS97 platform.

    When we try to run EUPES on this recompiled version (both client and
    server on the same system), we did not get any problem anymore.

    Then we tried to run EUPES from a client, which was installed on a seperate
    system and which was still running on the DECStep V6 platform (ACMS V3.3),
    while the server was running on SEPS97 (ACMS V4.1).

    On the server site, we got the following error message within ACMS :

    Type   : LOGIN     Time   :  6-FEB-1997 12:31:21.07
    User   :              Term   :  (DEC::)
    Sub    : DEC::0003000E-00000000-CF2B3B04-009AF7B0
    Text : Unsuccessful submitter authentication for application EUPES_APPL
    -ACMSACC-W-SUBNOTAUTH, Unable to authenticate submitter

    We believe the problem was related to the fact that these 2 ACMS versions
    cannot operate with each other, since we tried a number of different things
    to try to fix the problem, but without success...

    Is there anyone out there who has had this problem already before ?

    Thanks for your support.

    Jos.

    	ACMS has no problem interoperating with any versions from V3.2
    	to present, regardless of platform.

    	The authentication problem is the user on the client side is
    	not known on the server(application) side. You need to have
    	either a VMS proxy or ACMS proxy setup or define a default
    	username in ACMSGEN.
