| Bill, do you remember the customer name TIM in Rome (italy)? Yes, this is the
customer deleting the DECnet tranport.
Thanks for your fast answer.
In the meanwhile I looked at the DECnet-PLUS 7.1 SPD. The following two
sentences are very interesting:
"(features included) The ability to run DECnet and OSI applications
over the TCP/IP transports"
"(transport options for applications) The use of TCP/IP transport
using RCF 1006 and RCF 1859 does not require any modification to
existing application."
Tha ACMS customer application is a DECnet application and the two sentences
seem to suggest the possibility to run any DECnet application over the TCP/IP
transport.
Any idea?

Hi Anna
Yes, I do remember the customer, TIM. Hopefully the weather has gotten
much better since I was there in Novemeber.
I have heard that running DECnet over TCP/IP is possible. We have not
done that here and we probably won't do any testing with that
configuration. As long as the DECnet that is running is using
Phase IV (NSP) protocols, then it should be OK.

| Bill,
thanks for you answers and sorry to reply to your notes after so many
days.
At the moment I do not know how much is required "to delete" the DECnet
trasnport from the TIM network. I will investigate with the customer
about the real needs.
In the meanwhile we are thinking to try to use the DECnet-Plus software
and to see what happens.
Thanks. Ciao.
