| I meant to post a reply, but never got around to it. I sent a recommendation in
email to a friend who was looking for a gift certificate for dinner in the
Nashua area. I can reuse some of it here...
My favorite restaurant in Nashua is Michael Timothy's. The
owner calls it "A Chef Owned Urban Bistro". The chef, Michael
Timothy Buckley, was the head chef at Levi Lowell's, which was a
very well respected place in Merrimack.
I went to M.T.'s for my b-day and thought it was the closest
thing to being in Portsmouth, which is my favorite restaurant
town (also highest rated in New England, ahead of Boston and
Providence). My brother, who is also a chef, said that this is
the kind of place he would have if he opened a place of his own.
It's downtown and within walking distance of a few other
restaurants and Martha's Exchange, the local microbrewery. They
run a jazz bar next door, so you could also go there afterward.
There is a jazz brunch from 10:00 to 2:00 on Sunday. It looks
very nice, but I've never been...
I happen to have a menu here with me... I'm sure it changes,
but here's some of the basics: Appetisers $5.95-$7.95; Pizza
on the Grill $8.95-$10.95; Salads $2.95-$6.96; Entrees $11.95
to $18.95. The time I went, I split an appetizer and had an
entree and a glass of wine. Not too expensive (but not cheap)
and the atmosphere is nice, but not stuffy.
Dinners in my menu include wood grilled salmon and shrimp, baked
seafood lasagna with curry pasta, fillet of beef au poive, bistro
tournedos, chicken madiera, sauteed veal medallions. I had one
of the nightly specials, I think it was a combo of scallops and
swordfish, which was beautifully prepared and presented.
It's at 212 Main Street. Reservations strongly suggested.
They do have gift certificates. Call (603) 595-9334.
My 2nd favorite place is Ya Mamma's, which was voted the
area's #1 restaurant in the past. It's Italian, similar to
Porto Bello in Portsmouth, but the atmosphere is not as nice.
I hadn't tried it for years, due to the name and the location.
The prices are about the same as Michael Timothy's, so for
a nice evening, I'd go to M.T.'s first.

| Yes.
It's also smoke-free, both in the restaurant and in the wine bar.
Just to add to the clutter of enthusiastic comments, Michael Timothy's
is one of the finest restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of
visiting. It's not the fanciest, and it's not the most innovative, but
it's nice enough, and it's innovative enough. Preparation and service
are excellent.
One of my favorite lunches is a bowl of today's soup, whatever it
happens to be, and half of a pizza - the wild mushroom is particularly
nice. Of course, this does suggest that someone else should probably
be there so the other half of the pizza won't get cold...
