202.89Casa Mexico - Harvard SquareDECC::SULLIVANJeff SullivanMon Apr 07 1997 20:3027
I happened to be in Harvard Square and found this place. It was on a short list
of recommended Mexican places from someone who takes their Mexican food
seriously. Others on the list included Casa Romero and the Forest Cafe. Both
seemed too hard to get to from the square...

I had the Mol Poblano and it was incredible! Very spicy and cooked to
perfection. I can't remember the first place I had tasted Mol sauce, but I've
been searching for a place that served it for a while now. (See previous notes
for more description). I also sampled a shrimp enchilade (?) with verde sauce,
which was also very good. The prices for most entrees appeared to be in the
$10-$14 per range, although I didn't need to study the menu for long before my
decision was made.

The salsa, which is served with chips as an appetiser was very fresh, but spicy.
Although I ordered a Dos Equis beer (served with lime), I did sample the
margarita, which was good and a bit sweeter than the typical made-from-mix
variety.

The place really doesn't look like much from the outside, but it had a sortof
homey feeling (not fancy) inside. It's hard to find, unless you're looking for
it. About a block or so from the House of Blues at 75 Winthrop St, Cambridge
(near JFK St), 491-4552.

I'll be back!

-Jeff

202.90That's good news!STAR::DIPIRROTue Apr 08 1997 11:426
    	Glad to hear it's still good, Jeff. I haven't been there for years
    and don't find myself in that area all that often, but I've always
    loved Casa Mexico and particularly the mole poblano. When there was a
    second restaurant on Rt. 9 in Framingham many years ago, I used to go
    all the time. Then that one closed and left just the one in Harvard
    Square.
202.91comes across as the real thing, not tex-mex americanized APLVEW::DEBRIAElanguage by declarationWed Apr 09 1997 17:327

    Shhhh... you're giving away the secret of one of our favourite Harvard
    Square hang outs. Skip the line at Border's (unless you're single)
    and indulge in the much better food here. I have no basis for it, but
    the food there feels more authentic than most I've had. Tastes like the
    real thing would - is the sensation we (at least) experience there...
