The MLS '97 season kicks off in under 6 weeks! Hopefully everybody knows that the NE Revolution's first home game will be April 20th against the Tampa Bay Mutant Bats as the second part of a doubleheader with the US National Team's WCQ against Mexico. The attendance of the young players (and parents) to support both of our teams is a major requirement for their success. BUT, many leagues play on Sunday afternoon. How is your league handling this situation? Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) has declared April 20th a RAIN OUT, allowing teams to reschedule without penalty. Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League (NVYSL) has gone a step further. NVYSL has adjusted their Sunday schedule to give all teams a BYE on April 20th. (Towns were more than happy to support this when it was suggested to them that they could play their games, but they may not have referees!) I have heard a rumor that Mass. Premier League (MaPLe) has given their teams permission to reschedule with the suggestion that they move the games to April 19th. This would be poor since it would put every multiple- roster player in the situation of playing two games in one day or making a choice between Team A and Team B. A Compu$erve soccer forum buddy has begun a campaign to get USYSA and the local state youth orgs (MA, CT, RI, NH, NY, NJ, VT, and ME) to support and facilitate some moratorium on youth games for April 20th. Any other facts or rumors? |
