3530.0. "Ports going into output xoffed since Alpha replaced VAX" by CX3PST::NOTAMI::A_ANDERSON (CX03 2/H13 NSU/VAX MacGhille Aindrais) Tue May 13 1997 19:54
Ok this sounds very wierd but the customer insists that it is true.
They have a small lan with 34 terminal servers 8 of which are DS200 (running
V3.3) and the rest are DS90TL (running V1.1a). They were running on a VAX 3100
model 80 with applications writing to terminals connected to the DECservers.
The ports are set up with access remote and they will send a screeen full of
data and expect a operator to respond. They moved from a VAX 3100 to a Alpha
1000 since then the DECserver ports are getting stuck in an output xoffed mode.
Any new connection by the application get queued. Occasionally they catch it in
time and fix it by typing a ^Q on the terminal. The terminals are a variety of
VT420, VT320, VT220, and PC's.
He no longer has the VAX 3100 to fall back to as final proof but he insist that
the only change was the Alpha (and VMS 6.2-1h3).
I'll send him the ALPLAT01_062 but there is nothing in the release notes that
remotely resembles these symptoms.
Is there anything differant between LAT on a VAX vms 5.5-2 and a Alpha Vms 6.2
around passthru or flow control I need to be aware of?
I have him sending me screen dumps of the DECserver port set up and the LTA
terminal settings.
I asked him to disable input flow control on a few of his DECserver ports to
see if this helps, but I only suggested it as a short term work around.
Thanks in advance
Alan Anderson

| I don't know if the person(s) responsible for LAT on OpenVMS still read
this notes conference..... any takers?
You might try cross-posting this note to the OpenVMS Support conference
(VAXAXP::VMSNOTES).
