That means that it has a "universal" software-configured DAA, for use in
various countries, meeting various PTT requirements.

That is what you'd call it in the US (and Canada?).

3524.2 | RJ-11's will work | IROCZ::ALBRIGHT | She bop-he bop-a-we bop | Tue May 06 1997 15:23 | 15 |
| We will be providing adapter cables for countries that require them in
order to ship. At present that includes the U.K. and Germany.
The MJ8 connector is also commonly known at a RJ-45 and is about as
universal a physical interface you can get, thanks to all the twisted
pair ethernet ports out there. A RJ-11 cable will fit just fine into a
RJ-45, and is in fact, what we do here.
Adapters that convert RJ-11 to a particular contries phone connector
exist for most every country. At present we don't plan to provide them
and it will be the customer's responsibility. At this point it is not
a critical problem since the MC is only cerified for use in the U.S,
Canada and the U.K. Other countries will follow.

3524.3 | Ahhhhh, CLICK!, it fits! | SCASS1::auodial1_port6.auo.dec.com::korns | | Tue May 06 1997 17:05 | 8 |
| Gee, I never knew an RJ11 (4-connectors) would fit into an MJ8
(8 connectors). Well, maybe I knew it would fit, but wasn't sure
if that was what I was suppose to do in the 900MC. Great, sounds
easy!

3524.4 | Only need two pins | IROCZ::ALBRIGHT | She bop-he bop-a-we bop | Tue May 06 1997 17:23 | 5 |
| It works because in this case the only two wires/pins used are the
middle two. When you put a RJ11 into a MJ8 the middle set of pins (4 &
5 on the MJ8, 3 & 4 on the RJ11).
