3513.0. "dial-in/out config for DS90M" by HGOVC::SHUMCF () Tue Apr 29 1997 05:54

we have a proposal for a customer to use DECserver 90M to access the
remote site. The network configuration is shown as below:

    	File Server	Mail Server
            | |
    	    | |
    	    | | Headquarters
     --------------------------------------------- Ethernet segment
                                     |
    				     |
    				     |
    				  DECserver 90M
    				   | | | | |
    				  Modem pool
    				     |
                                     |
    			             |
    				   Remote site with Win/NT server

The file server and mail server are run on Windows NT server 4.0
platform. The normal operation requires file server initiated a call to
remote site to send file and remote site send e-mail to the mail
server. Since we are not expert on the configuration of DECserver,
could anyone advise how we need to configure on the DECserver 90M
except the IP address because the customer is using TCP/IP. If
possible, any example on the similar configuration is greatly
    appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    cf

RE: .0

It would appear that waht you need is dial-out-on-demand in the DECserver.
That is a feature in which the DECserver establishes an outgoing (dialed)
connection when it sees IP packets addressed to the remote host.

We don't currently have this feature in DNAS. Many routers have it, though.

You could probably get the DECserver to do the dialing with some external
application, but I don't think that's what you want.

Dave
