| If you define the port to be default protocol Telnet and the dedicated or
preferred service is the given IP address, it should work. You probably
also have to enable DSRLOGOUT, SIGNAL CHECK, and/or LONGBREAK LOGOUT
depending on the terminal and the wiring between the DECserver and the
terminal.

I had similar thoughts to .1. I hesitated to reply, since there is some
uncertainty in my mind around what the terminal does when it powers up/down.
Are the relevent control signals (e.g. DTR) going to float inactive, active,
or be susceptible to noise and crosstalk? The modem control signals on the
DECserver (together with the DEDICATED SERVICE and DEFAULT PROTOCOL) will
do what you want when there is a device (nominally a modem) with power that
will assert and de-assert the signals as connections come and go. It's a
bit more uncertain when the device powers up and down.
