3498.0. "90TL reloads after port parity errors" by STKAI1::KACK (Hkan Kck @GOO) Wed Apr 09 1997 06:18

Hi,

A customer has a 90TL (BL45-11) which reloads about once a week. Show server
status shows a high number of port parity errors (> 10000).
The customer would like to know if it is an expected behaviour to reload if the
the error counters exceed some max limit?
The parity errors stem from a VERY bad modem line.

thanks /hakan

No, the server shouldn't reload due to port parity errors. However, we have
found problems in the past where bad input into a serial port would cause
crashes due to various bugs. As far as I know, all known problems of this
type have been fixed.

Power the DECserver off and on to clear any crash codes, and next time
    it reboots, do an:

    local>show server status

see if there is any crash code at the bottom.

IE:. see if software or selftest are normal

    Selftest Status: Normal
    Software Status: Normal

    Server status shows:

PC: 07872F4 (must have missed one digit there)
    SP: 078c6a6c
    SR: 2000
    ME: 00000000
    CO: 200

I'll ask the customer to try it again.
