I doubt that's the "firmware". It's probably the DNAS software which
gets downline loaded or loaded off the Flash. The current version of
DNAS is V2.0, V2.1 has also shipped but only to customers with certain
new hardware. The next version of DNAS is just about to go to field
test. DNAS V1.5, although not the currently release, is still supported
and to the best of my knowledge has no bugs which would explain the
troubles you're experiencing.

As you know, we've been exchanging mail for a week or two. Everything
we're uncovered so far has been configuration errors in your setup. I
don't think the right way to proceed is to blindly copy someone else's
setup. Every configuration is somewhat unique, including IP addresses,
required protocols, the phone number to dial, etc. Even if you take
someone else's working configuration, you'll still have to change it to
customize it for your requirements. Unfortunately, it's not as simple
as being handed a configuration and told "do this"!
If you haven't already done so, please read the "Configuring a Port for
PPP Access" in the DNAS Management Guide. You can either order to book
or read the doc online using a Web browser (see pointers in note 300.*).
Have you tried using the Access Server Manager to configure the DECserver?
This product shipped with later version of DNAS than you're running, but
perhaps it could help you set up your server and port for dial-in access.
You can find a pointer to the latest ASM kit on the Remote Access home
page ("http://www-ra.lkg.dec.com").
By asking a more direct question, like "What does this counter mean?" or
"I did <this> and <this> happened... why?", you're more likely to get a
useful answer.

but why, after following the instruction (with a little modification , cause
ds90m doesn't support hardware flow control) using PPP configuration, the ds90m
still can not communicate to win95. that's why, i need the configuration for
comparison.

I agree.

I have, but no improvement.

not yet, but i will.

you're right jim. As my .0 said I already saw the ip address of PC, but they
still can not negotiate. I can not see the problem. I don't have a tool to see
all the packet.

If I knew the answer to that question, we wouldn't be here now. :-)

At this point, I think that's the best suggestion. Hopefully, if you use ASM
to completely set up both the server and the dial-in port, you'll fix
whatever it is that's not set up correctly.
> I don't have a tool to see all the packet.
I agree, that type of tool has been very helpful to me here in our labs. One
thing you do have that's helpful is the server counters: SHOW INTERNET
COUNTERS, SHOW PORT PPP COUNTERS, SHOW PORT COUNTERS, etc.

| dear cahill,
i succeed to configure the ds90m using ppp and dial-up networking
(w95). After upgrading the firmware to v2.0 dan using Netrider.
thanks,
