3464.0. "DS90TL crashes while copying large files.." by QCAV02::KPREM () Thu Mar 13 1997 06:17

Hello,

I am facing a problem with the DECserver 90TL working environment.

LARGE LOCAL AREA NETWORK WITH 16 ALPHAS 17 DECSERVERS         
LAT AND TELNET BOTH ARE USED.                                 
DECSERVERS ARE HAVING 1 MB RAM                                
PREVIOUSLY THE DECSERVERS WERE CRASHING WHENEVER TELNET OR PING WAS USED
FROM ANY OF ITS PORTS (THIS PROBLEM WAS OBSERVED WITH  5 NOS OF DECSERVERS)
REST 12 WERE WORKING OK. WHEN WE TRIED TO SWAP THE MEMORY WITH THE WORKING
DECSERVERS,THE PROBLEM GOT SWAPPED. BUT LATER WE GOT A FIELD TEST VERSION
OF MNENG1.SYS DOWNLOADED FROM INTERNET AND USED IT.
WITH THIS THE TELNET AND PING PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.
BUT RECENTLY WE ARE FACING ANOTHER PROBLEM..THE DETAILS IS AS FOLLOWS.

THERE ARE A FEW PCS WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE DECSERVERS 
THEY USE KERMIT TO DOWNLOAD  FILES TO ALPHA FROM THE PCS.
WHENEVER THEY TRANSFER BIG FILES, THE DECSERVER THAT THEY ARE CONNECTED
TO GET RESETTED AND IT STARTS RELOADING THE DECSERVER IMAGE FILE ALL OVER 
AGAIN.

THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME FREQUENT AND IT IS HAPPENNING WITH MOST OF THE 
DECSERVERS NOW.

The software of DS90TL is of version BL46-13.
Can u pls tell me what is the latest version of DS90TL (with 1 Mb Ram)
software.I have used till BL46-13.

1. OS details and its layerdproducts details 
   digital unix ver 3.2g no other layered prod.

2. DS90TL hardware and software details 
   FW V 2.0.0 HW 3.0

3. Protocol used by Decservers 
   default protocol telnet

This refers to the 17 no DEcserver 90TL problem which I had posted
in 3464.0. The only error msg we cld collect is given below.

I am putting the full picture of what happened from the day installation. 

1. While installing the DS90TL we have encountered 5 no terminal server problem 
  like Crash on Telnet,lat and ping. The problem was hard on .The Terminal svr 
  image version was BL44G-10A. The other terminal servers was working ok without
  the above problem.

2. We have brought one terminal server to our office and checked with s/w 
   version 1.1A BL45-11. The problem repeated in our office.

3. Since the 90TL was booting and downloading was succesfull we suspected
   the memory problem. To ensure that we have swapped the working Decserver
   90TL memory with the existing terminal server memory. The faulty DECserver 
   memory was mfg by SEC and good one was by SAMSUNG. After replacing the SEC
   memory with the SAMSUNG the terminal server started working. Also we put the
   SEC memory in the Good server found oK and operational. So we have concluded 
   there must be some mismatch in the memory.

4. To test the Image with the memory we have copied Mneng1 from NPSS::
   PUBLIC$DSK:[interchange]mn_bl46-13.sys. With this image the terminal started 
   working at our office. We have implemented the same at site. 
   For seven days no problem observed at site or it was not known to customer.
   But while transfering file with the kermit the terminal server started 
   crashing intermittently.  Then users have found the crashing problem happened
   with out the Kermit also.

5. To find out the reason we have installed one terminal server with SAMSUNG 
   memory. So far problem has not occured for Samsung memory. 

   At this moment the customer is suspecting a product quality issues. 
   

The error at this moment- is Fatal bugcheck,PC=07892558,SP=078C7158,SR=2000
					   M=00000000,C=226
                         
     Mneng1 is bl46-13.
