3463.0. "US Robotic Sportster and DS90M" by NQOS01::16.72.128.103::LOVE (Are we having fun yet?) Wed Mar 12 1997 18:58

I am attempting to connect a US Robotics Spotster modem to a port on a
DECserver 90M. Below is shown the settings of each where I was able to
get the modem to answer and connect and then have the active light come on
when I enter a CR. I have tried &Bx, &Hx, &Ix, &N0, and &Rx settings with
mixed results, Either no answer, or answer with connect and no active light.
Does anyone happen to know what my modem settings should be? I know this
can be done with a Hayes modem, which I did for another customer over a year
ago. Can it be done with a Robotics modem?

Thanks,

Norm

3463.1Will this ever work?NQOS01::16.72.128.103::LOVEAre we having fun yet?Thu Mar 13 1997 12:066
I take it I am the first to attempt to connect a US Robotic Sportster 28800
to a 90M. I have been on the phone with CSC for serveral hours and have gone
through 28 different combinations with no luck. Has anyone got one of these
beasts to work on a 90M?

Sorry, you're not. We've used these same modems to both DS90Ms and DS900GMs.

Autobaud should not be enabled when using a dial-in modem. Configure the
port so autobaud is disabled and the port speed is set to the highest
setting supported by both the port and the modem. Then, connect to the
modem through that port and lock the modem's serial port speed to that
same speed. This can be done using ASM or by reading the DNAS Management
Guide and following the instructions listed in there on how to configure
a port for dial-in access.

When two modems communicate, they negotiate the rate at which they pass
data between each other, based on the quality of the phone line. The two
modems can use different data flow rates when communicating out their
serial ports to the PC and DECserver.
