Yes it is the same as Unix lpr/lpd. I don't know if NT supports anything
else.
If you have a OpenVMS or Unix system on your net, you could spool the
printfiles from NT to that host and then use a telnetfilter(unix) or
telnetsymbiont (OpenVMS/UCX) to actually do the printing.
One other thing is that apparently engineering is considering/working on a
lpd implementation on our DECservers (see note 3359). I don't know what the
status is on that...

lpd support will be in V2.2 of DNAS.

Raw TCP listeners are supported as of DNAS V2.0. I don't know if NT supports
raw TCP printing, but DNAS will.

I have spoken to the customer that has this problem. They have a WIN NT
cluster
on Alphas 1000As with application called PIC / UNIVERSE. The NT is ver 3.51 .
He has a line printers connected to DECserver 90M ( DNAS ver 2.0 ) using
RS232,
such as OKI, Printronix etc, FOR ASCII PRINTING.
He need to asign an IP address to that Printer port on the 90M. To do so he
used
Access Server Manager ( of our WEB site ), but when you setup that port to
have
IP address it DISABLE PRINTING capablities !!! ( so he says ) .You can ping
the
90M port with the Assigned IP address, but can not print onto the printer
attached.
When configuring the port to have printer the IP ADDR goes away ( the ping
stops).
The UNIVERSE application creates the Spooler PR0,PR1,,,,,PR9 .
Any user on any device on the network that wants to print to the attached
printer, the application sends the job to Spooler PR0 ( let say ) onto IP ADDR
that the Printer is attached to ( 90M ).
I do not know much about LPD/LPR. The customer beleives that he can use LPR on
the NT for printers assignment.
Is there a way to print in this setup ?? Even If there is no UNIX box on the
network ??

I have to guess exactly what the customer might have done. One advantage
of the old CLI over the GUI is that you can post commands in a note like
this, but its hard to post "points and clicks". Did the customer set up
a raw TCP listener on the port of did they instead set up SLIP or PPP?
Both involve assigining an IP address to the port.

The operaative question is whether they can use raw TCP to assign printers
on NT, or must it be LPD? I don't know the answer.

As I say, someone with more NT printing experience would have to answer the
question.

I have forwarded your comment to our customer, but he is aware of this and
still
require help with WIN NT printing onto a line printer attached to a DECserver
90M port.
Does anyone out there has a customer that is able to print from NT onto a
ASCII
printer via DECserver 90M ( DNAS V2.0 ) ??????

| Hi there ,
Someone has told me that there is a product ( non Digital ) called SUPER LAT
NT
that will resolve this printing problem. It needs to be installed onto the NT
server and uses LAT protocol to print via our DECserver 90M( NT does not
support
RAW TCP ).
Has anyone heard played with this product ?????

We have heard of the product. It is from Meridian [Systems, Technologies,
Software, or something-else]. Meridian handles our LAT Licensing program
for us, and we use their code.
