I have three terminal servers on this network. I changed the on each to 64
seconds, the maximum. I also changed the retry interval to 2, 3, and 5
seconds
on each terminal server, respectively, so as to avoid possible collisions in
the RADIUS requests. So far, though, I've still had one more occurence of the
Authentication Server Unavailable Message.

On a related note (3416.2, to be exact), I am trying to find a correlation
between my customer using bandwidth hog apps like I-Phone and RealAudio and
the intermittent operation of the RADIUS server.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

FYI - we have not had any other reports of the DRAS server hanging on
NT, although the problem has been observed intermittently on OpenVMS.

One way to troubleshoot this might be to put a sniffer for RADIUS
packets on the networkto see exactly what is moving between the
DECserver and the RADIUS server. Based on .1, perhaps the RADIUS
requests are getting to the NT system but not being processed on time
and the DS times out. It would be interesting to see if there are
RADIUS packets back to the DECserver after it has timed out waiting for
    the RADIUS response.

    Dick,

Thanks for the pointer on the DRAS patches. The server displays all
entries now. Unfortunately, I never did get to check to see whether it
was the bandwidth hog that was causing the problems: I convinced the
customer to drop this unhealthy practice.
