542.0. "DRAS 1.0 on OSF, 2 management stations, cannot change password" by IAMOSI::LEUNG () Wed Apr 30 1997 03:33
OSF V3.2C
DRAS V1.0
Management Stations : Intel NT V4.0, DRAS V1.0-003
Customer has installed DRAS on OSF box and specified a management station. The
DRAS server can be managed OK from that management station.
Customer then installed DRAS on a 2nd NT box and did the following :
1) Started DRAS.
2) Servers -> Add server -> Added the OSF box
3) Double-clicked on the DRAS server. The login failed as expected given that
the new client added on the DRAS server is not enabled. Went to the 1st NT
box, selecting the client for the 2nd NT box and ticked the "Enable" box.
4) Went back to the 2nd NT box and double-clicked the DRAS server.
Expanded the Users group to see all the users previously added from the
1st NT box.
Then, added a new user 'fred'. Specified 'PASSWORD' as authentication
and entered a password in the password field. Clicked OK.
The user is added. Click on user 'fred' to see what has been entered.
All the info is displayed but the password field is BLANK!!!
When we then try to use that user from the terminal server for
authentication, it fails. I will get the exact error message.
Also, when we try to modify an existing user's password, the change is
accepted without any errors but the password is NOT changed. The original
password stays. There is no problem of changing password on the 1st NT box.
Customer also tried to re-install DRAS on the 2nd NT box but problem
persists.
See below for the trace from dras.log on the UNIX box.
I tried inhouse with DRAS on a OSF box (V4.0A/B) and management stations
(NT V3.51 and NT V4.0) and could not reproduce problem.
Has anyone seen this problem?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Dennis

| The problem was that the customer did not run setupdb on the 2nd NT box!!!
Really strange that this causes this sort of problem.....

| We have removed the need to run setupdb.exe on
a management station. The change will be available
soon in a field test update of DRAS.
