540.0. "DRAS V1.0 for Unix dras010_install.tar on feenix corrupted????" by 60689::LEUNG () Tue Apr 15 1997 21:48

I copied the DRAS V1.0 for Unix kit from
http://feenix.lkg.dec.com/~dras/dras.html, untar the file and then tried to
install it using setld.

Get the following error :
Digital Remote Access Security Server (DRAS) for DEC UNIX V1.0
   Copying from . (disk)
tar: - : This doesn't look like a tar archive
tar: - : Skipping to next file...
setld:
File copy to system disk failed.

Subset DRAS010 may not have been installed properly on your system
but the rest of the installation will continue.
   Verifying
setld:
There were verification errors for "Digital Remote Access Security Server (DRAS)
 for DEC UNIX V1.0" (DRAS010)

0 of 1 subset(s) installed successfully.

-rw------- 1 leung system 870400 Apr 16 10:32 dras010_install.tar

I re-copied the same kit from feenix but still nogo.
Also copied the same tar file using decnet but same error.

Looking at the contents of the files, found that the file 'INSTCTRL' seems to be
corrupted. If I view the file, it says that :
"INSTCTRL" [Read only] [Incomplete last line] 402 lines, 14385 characters (6095
 nulls)

Also, the file is only 402 lines long and ends as such :
          echo " "
          echo "Software Inst

Has anyone used the tar file from feenix successfully?

Thanks
Dennis

BTW : I don't have access to the DRAS CD.

Anyone has the DRAS CD and can copy the Digital Unix kit to an accessible
location??

I really need to get hold of the kit to reproduce a customer's problem

Thanks
Dennis

We've looked into this problem and discovered at least some of the kits
on FEENIX are corrupted. Apparently, they weren't copied correctly and
some of the file attributes have been changed.

We're working on fixing this.

I have a theory. What version of Digital UNIX are you using?

RE: .4

I found what the problem is.
In the kit (both the tar file on feenix and also on the CD),
the file dras010_install/DRAS010 was in a compressed format.
I had to uncompress the file first and then the installation using setld
went fine.

You didn't answer my question: which version of Digital UNIX? However,
your problem description tends to confirm my theory.

We discovered that on Digital UNIX V4.*, the setld kits we were building
using compression failed to install. The mechanism in setld that handled
compression seems to have "broken", because the kist still install in older
versions of Digital UNIX. Our workaround for now is to not use compression
(which was mandatory for inclusion on ConDist). Since we have a separate
CD, this isn't an issue. There may be a new kit build procedure that allows
compression to work, but we are building kits under V3.2 (or thereabouts).

Dave

RE: .6

Yes, the problem exists only on Unix V4.0 and above.
The same kit installs fine on OSF V3.2x.
