926.0. "VNswitch LANE performance" by VAXRIO::VENTRIGLIA () Wed Jun 04 1997 19:06
Hi,
I was browsing through hub_mgmt conference, and I found out that
common_brouters conference is best suited for VNswicth questions, so I
am reposting a note here to see if I get some response.
The customer is one our biggest installed base in Brazil, and he is
waiting for this info to start a bid process. Thanks in advance.
=======================================================================
Hi,
One of our largest customers in Brazil is considering the use of
VNswitches and ATMswitches on their site. They have a question:
Data Communications magazine has published in September,1996 an article
with test results of some ATM switches and edge devices, in a Lan
Emulation configuration. Digital was not one of the tested companies.
He would like to know if we have some performance numbers for our
equipments. The test is illustrated below.
+---------+ +---------+
Ethernet ---| | | |--- Ethernet
Ethernet ---| Edge | ATM BAckbone | Edge |--- Ethernet
... | ATM/Eth |--------------| ATM/Eth | ...
Ethernet ---| | | |--- Ethernet
+---------+ +---------+
Does anyone has some similar test results using VNswitch 900EA that
could be shown to the customer, or any pointer to some article with
this kind of tests on Digital equipments?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Best regards,
Roberto

926.1 | A quick gentle step up on the soap-box.... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Thu Jun 05 1997 10:05 | 21 |
| Although I personally understand your urgent need for information
for your customer, I have a small problem with cross-posting this
topic. Once a noter has gotten responses or partial answers to
his/her initial question, it is seen somewhat as improper "netiquette"
to then cross-post the same question in another notes file. It then
makes it a little difficult to track all the dialogue related to
this issue. I think Hugh implied a strong enough implication that
he had seen this information and would research it and post a
response in the hub_mgnt notes file. I'd give him a little more time
to come up with an answer. He's pretty darn good about giving
full and complete answers in a timely fashion. He's also one of
many VNswitch Developers who are very very busy with current code
developement for the next major release.
This is just a gentle reminder from a fellow noter who follows
fairly closely many different notes conferences, and is not intended
to be anything but a very gentle constructive suggestion.
Thanks for your understanding.
regards,
Bob
