913.0. "Problem upgrading RAbt Cent EI to V2.0-4" by atzis1.aui.dec.com::au8205.aui.dec.com::erben_k () Thu May 22 1997 12:52

Hi out there,

I'm trying to upgrade a RouteAbout Central Ei (HW=1, RO=1,#6651) from
SW=T2.0-3 (MP) to V2.0-4 but it does not load. The RouteAbout
COnfigurator bootp/tftp Server does not see any tftp request, so does
NetRider Loader. I did try to start the upgrade from the load remote command
via 1) Telnet 2) a redirect from the hub 900 3) from the setup port which is
behind the front bezel. On the setup port, the router terminated the upgrade
with a message like 'out of memory'...but it had quite a lot of memory free.

I also did connect my notebook directly to Eth/0 (just a cable), Ping worked
between the router and the PC.

Do you have any ideas ???

Thanks a lot in advance,
Karl

When you use the setup port and see the "out of memory" is it something like
this:

*reload
Are you sure you want to reload the gateway? (Yes or [No]): yes

How much memory is there in the system?. Can you post the output from
"+mem". It sounds like the image can't get enough memory to store the new
compressed image. Version T2.0-3 was an old field test image, could be that
there is a bug in the FT image that prevents an upgrade. In which case the
only solution is to use the diags to perform a bootp load (power cycle the
box whilst holding in the dump/reset switch, I think there is already a note
in here about primitive loads of a 900).

913.2Output of +mem and an 'upgrade'atzis2.aui.dec.com::au7109.aui.dec.com::erben_kFri May 23 1997 10:3744
Hi Mark,
I'm posting the output of +mem and of an 'upgrade' here.
I'll try it via Primitive Load...

Thanks a lot,
Karl

Thank you.

    I think you've got one of the original seed units, which shipped
    with only 4MB of RAM. Either upgrade to 8 (72 pin SIMM with parity) or
    use the primitive loader for your upgrades...
