891.0. "Tracing in Routeabout?" by OSLLAV::BJORN (Bjrn Olav Haugom) Wed May 07 1997 07:23

We have a problem with private X.25 between a Routeabout Access EW and an
Ericsson HLR (GSM Home Location Registry). The call is coming in, but is
rejected by the Routeabout with a cause code of 0 and diag code of 249.
We get an event saying "prot not supported" together with the clear event.

Is there any way to look into the call details using the EVL system on the RA?
Is there any CTF-interface that could be run from an OpenVMS system connected
to the Ethernet side of the router?

	Is the incoming call for routing or are you using X.25 switching?

>We get an event saying "prot not supported" together with the clear event.

	This is a general "catch-all" for unrecognised/unwanted calls.

>Is there any way to look into the call details using the EVL system on the RA?

	EVL does not print the details, only the basic packet types.
	If you are using LLC2/switching, then make sure you have X25S
	events switched on too.

>Is there any CTF-interface that could be run from an OpenVMS system connected
>to the Ethernet side of the router?

	The router has support for DTF. DTF kits are available from:

891.2X25 switching and LLC2OSLLAV::BJORNBjrn Olav HaugomWed May 07 1997 10:5317
The customer are using X.25 Switching, call coming in from the HLR, and we
have set up a client and filter to map the call to outgoing port, which
is Ethernet and LLC2. The problem is that I can not see the content of the
X.25 Call packet when it comes from the HLR.

The system is located in Bangladesh, a bit (!) far from here, so I am not
able to use any analyzers to see what is going on.

It is also hard to get the CTF installed, as we are connected to the remote
site via modems.

Do you have any more clue about the possible cause?

Bjrn Olav

891.3MARVIN::WALTERWed May 07 1997 11:595
	I would certainly switch on the X25 Switching events.

	The most likely cause (which would get logged by ELS) is
	with incompatible packet/window size between the X.25
	network and the LLC2 network.
891.4all x25 events turned onOSLLAV::BJORNBjrn Olav HaugomFri May 09 1997 08:0011
I turned on all X25 logging, so I have not missed any events.

The problem is that the events do not show me enough information,
for example the Call details.

There are no differences in the packet/window size between the two sides
of the router. We are using fixed 1024 packet size and window size 7.
The clear comes from the router just after a call is received. No events are
displayed for the LLC2 side of the router.

	Unless you can get a DTF trace, it is difficult to say what might
	be happening.

	The fact that you see "protocol not supported" implies that the
	incoming call is not recognised as a candidate for switching and
	is getting passed to Routing.

	This could be (at least) one of two things:

	The incoming call contains a user data field that matches a routing
	protocol. You could try increasing the switching filter priority
	to be higher than routing (255).

	Or, there is some basic problem with the client/filter definitions.
	Can you post configuration details?

Below are the details about the X.25 parameters from both Config and Monitor
Raising the priority did not make it.
