Comparing cost on a port count only is misleading. You have to examine the different funtionalities of each system. I don't know that the 3com product is that you mention so I can't comment on such differences. You might want to try contacting our product manager - Bernie Zarin, or Pete Dunbeck if you want competitive information. Chris

Looking at the 3com web page, it looks like 3com is offering your customer a SuperstackII Switch 2700. A couple of notes, I don't beleive the 10baseT is full duplex and I'm not sure about this, but it doesn't look like the ethernet ports are 100% switched. I would suggest you look at the 3com web site at www.3com.com and make your own conclusions. Brad

I suppose its worth pointing out that a significant differentiator of the VNswitch is the flexibility you get with the VNbus interconnect (multiple VNbuses in a hub) plus the general LAN hopping hub backplane interconnect. These allow you to configure multiple systems in a hub (VNswitches and other systems such as repeaters) in many different ways. If you look at our competitors I think you find that their switches with that kind of flexibility are closer in cost to the Vnswitch and are not as flexbible as the Vnswitch combined with other hub 900 products. Its also worth pointing out that the VNswitch will be software-upgradeable to be an IP router with around 100,000pps IP routing performance. Chris |
