    Now we want suppress X25router and replace by RA90EI in the main site
    and change VAX RL1 -> E/N or E/S and add RAEI on the X25 remote site.
    
    The SPD is clear , the customer can't migrate.
    
    I can't replace the X25router2000 by RA  (ONLY ONE DLM support)  
    
    The customer preferred X25 DA or ISDN  but I can't use at the time Decnet 
    IV and OSI required by X25 DA or ISDN.
    
    The routeabout isn't an integrated router , neither an ship in the
    night router.
    
    Decnet IV and OSI are incompatible if you use X25.
    The routeabout is unusable in mixed environment ( DECnet IV and OSI)
    
    The old wanrouter90 was better in X.25.
    support DECnet IV and OSI at the same time , 8 X25 DLM , 8 X25 DA.
    Cisco was better in this case.
    
    The customer said : "Please when you find this kind of problem , 
    fix it and don't change the SPD."

	Could you please post a description of what configuration you are aiming towards? You are right in saying that the DRS V2.0 software does not support mixed Phase IV/V routing when using DLM/DA circuits. However, if you are migrating all the VAX routers to Phase IV end nodes, and replacing the X25Router2000, then this would work.

	Walter The problem comes from PC with DECnet IV. They have PC DECnet and VMS hosts (E/N or E/S) on the same LAN. Each PC and VMS hosts must communicate with remote VMS HOST in a first time using X25 DLM , and after X25 DA or ISDN DOD. X25 DLM with Phase IV works fine but we need to support more DLM (ex: 8 DLM as wanrouter90) X25 DA or ISDN DOD with OSI works fine , but I can see the PC if I don't start Decnet IV. If I start DECnet IV at the same time it doesn't work Please if you start OSI only with IV compatible address could you send the router hello IV and the IS hello listen the E/N hello IV and update es-adj with DNAIV tag listen the E/S hello V and update es-adj with OSI tag convert osi frame <-> DECnet frame if needed. You can send and receive OSI and DECnet IV frame in each data-link. You have already these code. DECNIS ,WANrouter, CISCO ... are using these kinds of technics. This is an implementation problem , not a specification problem. They bought Digital routers because they think Digital was the best in the mixed environment DECnet IV/V/OSI. 	Even if you are running the router as "pure" Phase V, so that the L1 and L2 routing algorithms are Link State, you should still be able to see Phase IV end-nodes and cluster aliases. To make this work you need to turn on the Phase IV Executor and Ethernet circuit, eg NCP>def exe addr X.Y NCP>def exe type dec-area NCP>def exe sta on NCP>def cir eth/0 sta on The problem with the configuration in .0 is the Phase IV WAN routers (X25Router and VAX DLM node). To run DRS V2.0 with multiple X25 (DA/DLM) circuits you need to configure Link State at L1 and L2. This means that you will have to run PhaseV/Link State on all routers. As long as each local area is connected by a PhaseV/Link State router, the end-nodes will be able to communicate. As an alternative, you could use the Proteon Style X25 communication supported by DRS V1.0 ( and still in V2.0). Of course, in this case, ALL routers would need to be DRS routers.

	In the main site we can upgrade X25router2000 to WAnrouter 500 , or add a routerabout90 in the new area running OSI , LSP L1/L2. In the remote site , we change VAX router by routeabout90EI running only OSI in an other area with LSP L1/L2 . I verify again this morning , you don't see the PC IV if you don't turn on decnet. 	Forget the problem with phase IV router , we can isolate these routers in one area and think only to the target network. No this is legal. It is acceptable to have Phase IV endnodes on a LAN, even when the router is running Link State ( at L1 and L2). What has been tested is the set of configurations described in the SPD: (1) Link state only router, with multiple (1-31) DLM/DA circuits on any combination of X.25 interfaces. (2) Routing Vector only router, with 1 DLM circuit per physical interface.

This is not my experience. Certainly in a simple configuration with two LAN's connected by two RA90s, the login sequence is almost instantaneous using VMS-VMS or VMS-UNIX. Performance should exceed that of a DEMSA based X25 router. This modification doesn't fixe the problem. Under T2 I receive this kind of message . CNLP rcvd incmplt pkt I try to change the data format in the prefix V -> IV and routing algorithm. In this case on the remote router I receive the packet but I never answer. I check all the case RL1/2 Distance Vector and/or Link State. The node stays unreachable . Didier

	The problem with DA circuits is due to a bug on the path which forwards PhaseIV via a reachable address prefix. Although this "sort of" works, many packets get corrupted and this shows up as poor performance. I have now fixed this and tested it in my test configuration. Of course you should still raise the IPMT to make sure you get the fix. Forwarding via DLM works fine in all the tests that we have done. It is possible that, in your limited configuration, you can run with distance vector. However, this will not work once you add more than one circuit to a single physical interface. The SPD restriction is that: 1.You can run with multiple DA/Static circuits only if you run Link State at L1 and L2 and have the executor turned off ("pure Phase V"). OR 2.You can run Distance Vector, with X25 circuits, if you have OSI disabled and run only one X25 circuit per physical interface. In fact, yes it is possible to do 1 and also have the executor turned on so that Phase IV end-nodes can participate in the network, and we should add this to a future SPD.
