746.0. "RIP problems with Default Route over Frame Relay" by IB001::AMBROSIO () Fri Feb 07 1997 06:23

	Hello,

I'm having some problems with RouteaAbouts (MP & IP) all related
	to RIP.

I.- Will RIP be supported with IP Unnumebered Serial Interfaces?

Up to version 2.0.1 it is not running and i have to use IP
addresses on Serial Interfaces. It doesn't matter if PPP is
used over leased lines or over frame relay.

I say PPP because i connect RouteAbouts (MP & IP) with a
            DECnis (v3.1.8)

In the case of Frame Relay my experiencie is with an IP
            RouteAbout.

II.- RIP do not pass Default Route if PPP-Encapsulate over FR?

	    I connected a DECnis (V3.1.8) with a Routeabout EI (v2.0.1)
through a Frame Relay connection with PPP encapsulated. The
problem was that the RouteAbout was not receiving the
Default Route so i had to define it as an Static Route.

The details of the configuration are:

            - Layout

	      DECNIS---EASYnet
                |
                |
V <--- Some IP subnets AND Default Route arrives from EASYnet
                |
                |
           16.254.196.2
              DECNIS---PPP---FRAME RELAY---PPP---ROUTEABOUT--Eth (16.38.80.1)
                   (16.254.201.1) (16.254.201.2)

	    - Frame Relay circuit on both sides
	    - PVC connecting both sides with a CIR of 32 Kbps
	    - DECnis on one side, car W622, sw version 3.1.8
	    - RouteAbout EI on other side, sw version 2.0.1
	    - Data-Link is PPP encapsulated over FR with IP numeberd
              interfaces.
	    - IP routing protocol is RIP.

Same configuration is OK running but with leased lines instead
            of Frame Relay.

	    Here is a RIP dump:

Can you do a DTF trace on the RouteAbout (PPP INTERFACE * or FRBS INTERFACE
*) to see if the DECNIS is sending the default route in its RIP packets. It
would be nice to know whether the RouteAbout is ignoring the default route
or whether it is just not getting announced by the DECNIS.

Did you have the OVERRIDE STATIC and DEFAULT functions enabled ?, without this
the default route will be ignored.

746.3Key = Defaults on Pseudo PPP interfaces?IB001::AMBROSIOTue Feb 11 1997 04:47481
	Hi,

Sorry for the delay but i had to install the DTF utility....

	Reply to 746.1

At the end are two traces of RIP protocol at PPP interface level
The first one is a trace of a Frame Relay connected Routeabout
(router LVAROU) which has not defined the Default Route on its
routing table. The second one is a trace of a Leased Line connected
Routeabout (router SEVROU) which has defined the Default Route on
        its routing table.

From traces i do no see any difference and both are receiving
	RIP packets like this one:

-DTF- 0 Rx ....

      UDP port: RIP
      -------------
      RIP version 1
      RIP Command Response

      RIP command: Response
      ---------------------
      RIP Networks... 25
      network @ metric 0.0.0.0 @ 6
...continue...

Below are the detailed DTF traces, if you need more info just let me
	know.

	Reply to 746.2

Looking at the info of 746.1 and checking that OVERRIDE STATIC and
DEFAULT functions are NOT enabled on Routeabout with Frame Relay
but they DO ARE defined on Routeabout with Leased Line. NOTE that
by default those options seems not to be enabled on PPP Pseudo-Devices,
I'll let you know the results.

NOTE: Last night i upgraded Routeabouts from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 but it did
	not changed anything.

	Cheers,
	Andres.

The OVERRIDE flags are not set by default on any interface, if you want that
behaviour you need to explicitly enabled it with the
	ENABLE OVERRIDE DEFAULT and
	ENABLE OVERRIDE STATIC commands.

    Hi Tony,

I changed OVERRIDE flags on two routers and now it is OK.

Below is the dump of IP routing tables after modifications.

    Cheers,
    Andres.
