580.7E1 not working with RAD ASM40BRADEC::KALOSIAkos KalosiFri Jan 24 1997 10:0214
Hi,

I have similar problems with EW90-V.35-(RAD ASM40)-G.703-(RAD ASM40)-V.35-EW90.
When I change to T1 ( or lower speed e.g. 1024k/s) the chain is working.
I did several tests ( with loopbacking in several points in the chain ) and
figured out, that there is probably problem with V.35. It seemed to me, that
signal transmitted by the router is not followed by one of the modems. I asked
RAD for another modem. After swap the chain was working, but it was unstable.
It was enough to touch the interface cable, and the line protocol went down. I
did the same tests with DECbrouter90s with the same result.
Can we sell and install brouters for E1? Are they reliable enough?

    As you've found in note 657, the problem appears to be related to the
    RAD. I would expect all the Routeabouts, DECnis and BRUT to work at
    2.048 Mbps, but at these high speeds things can get tricky if the
    'modem' (DSU) is not quite doing things right.

    We did testing with a modem elminator at 2.048 Mbps, but obviously not
    with every possible variety of DSU.
