10028.0. "Migrating from SUN to DU" by COMICS::CORNEJ (What's an Architect?) Tue Jun 03 1997 10:58

I am working with a customer who needs to migrate thousands of users
from a SUN system to DU V4.0B.

Are there any scripts around that kan make this less painful?

You may want to check the ASAP Technical Support Pages:

The internal page is:

Note that there are Migration docs from other UNIXes to Digital UNIX as well as
docs that describe 32-bit/64-bit issues.

Sorry - I missed a significant piece of the information.

It is the user accounts I want to migrate - the applications are in the
process of happening. Can I copy the /etc/passwd file and expect the
users to still use their old passwords? This sort of thing.

You should be able to copy the file over, edit it and take out the system accounts, and then just append the rest
to the passwd already in place.

Just be sure that there's no user accounts on the sun that have conflicting UID's, and that the homedirs, shells,
etc, are all the same.

This is, of course, assuming you're not running enhanced security.
