9997.0. "DE500 & sizer" by SIOG::BR_MURPHY () Fri May 30 1997 10:06

    I've just been running a DU3.2C - DU3.2G upgrade, on an AS2100 with
firmware updated from update CD V3.8. At the same time a
digital engineer added a DE500 to the system. When he ran sh dev & sh
config @ the 3 chevron prompt, the new network card showed up fine.
However when I booted genvmunix & ran sizer -n, the new card was not
listed. I was unable to add an approriate entry in the kernel config
file. Eventually I discovered that at the SRM console the new card had
been given a default of ewb0_mode=AUI. How can this be so. The card
only has twisted-pair connection. When I set the device to
twisted-pair, genvmunix/sizer found the device no problem & I was able
to configure a new kernel & then run netsetup to configure a new
    network configuration.
Surely this must be a bug. I wasn't in a position to test this. The
customer wasn't very happy. Who do I report such an error to & how do I
    go about it.

    Thanks,

    Brendan.

Did you upgrade the firmware on the machine?

You might try the platform notesfiles to find out why the AUI mode was
    set by default...

Also, I don't know for sure, but if the device is a de500, our driver
would certainly be OK for failing probe if the mode is set AUI.

Yes, I upgraded the firmware to the latest avaiable from the Version
    3.8 firmware upgrade CD.

How can AUI mode be allowed at the firmware level when the de500 only
    has twisted pair?

From my point of view, the Operating System is always going to fail to
see the de500, because there is no AUI connection available.

It would be best if you asked console firmware questions in a platform
specific notesfile... I don't follow any platform specific notesfiles
myself. Does anyone have pointers to a platform (SABLE, LYNX, etc.)
    notesfile for this question?
