9979.0. "Can DUNIX assign each tty to specific PC or user" by TLAV02::16.158.208.67::SOMNUK () Thu May 29 1997 10:35

Dear All,

Does our DUNIX able to configure to dedicate each
psuedo terminal device (tty) to PC or to a specific
user who is login into the system? In addition, the
customer would like to specify the login timeframe
for each psuedo-terminal devices. The mainframe-based
customer would like to control at that level of security.
Does our C2 security features able to do that? I know that
our C2 able to specify the login control at what day and time
the user is login to the system but the customer would
like to control each psuedo-terminal devices. HP claims that
she can do it. Any idea?

Thank You Very Much

Regards,
Somnuk

Check out the Security Manual. It gives alot of general information
on Enhanced Security. Also, check out the ttys(4) man page.

For your information, Digital UNIX doesn't have any functionality called
"C2 Security". Digital UNIX has some functionality that meets C2 level
security requirements. Some of this functionality is enabled all of the
time on Digital UNIX. Some of this functionality is enabled by enabling
    "Enhanced Security".

Hi,

I have check out the manual already. I just
wonder any of the customers out there has
such requirements and does anyone has ever
implement it. From what I read from the manual
it does not mention anything of assigning specific
ttys to a given user or PC workstation.

Thank you for clarifying that we don't have C2
but rather it called Enhanced Security.

Somnuk

I suspect that most applications that provide remote access use the
openpty or forkpty() call which gets you the next available master/slave
pair of ptys. I'm not aware of anything we provide that does what your
customer is looking for. Sorry
