9943.0. "ENVMON_HIGH_THRES ?" by HGOMC2::SIUKEUNGLEE () Mon May 26 1997 10:41

    Hi,

    What is the "ENVMON_HIGH_THRES" ? According to the 'man' page, the
    variable is the threshold level. Could someone help to explain
    more about the usage of this variable ? And the default setting is
    40. Does it means the threshold of the temparture is 40C ?

          ENVMON_HIGH_THRES
           Specifies the threshold level that can be encountered before
           the envmond daemon broadcasts a warning and suggestes action.

    Welcome any suggestion!

The ENVMON_HIGH_THRESH variable sets the threshold temperature value
in degrees C for the temperature ceiling on an AlphaServer that supports
Environmental Monitoring (subset OSFENVMONXXX). This is one of 5 variables

	ENVMON_CONFIGURED = 1
	ENVMON_GRACE_PERIOD =
	ENVMON_MONITOR_PERIOD =
	ENVMON_HIGH_THRESH =
	ENVMON_USER_SCRIPT =

that can be changed by the user using the envconfig utility:
	usage: envconfig start | stop | -q | -c [<attribute=value>]

The purpose of this variable is to let the user set the high temperature
value in degrees C, that they feel is the highest temperature their system
should reach before the envmond daemon invokes an orderly shutdown process.
This shutdown will occur in the time set by the ENVMON_GRACE_PERIOD variable,
which is default to 15 minutes. Messages notifying the user of the shutdown
will be displayed to the console at a rate specified by the
ENVMON_MONITOR_PERIOD variable, which is default to 1 minute. After the
ENVMON_GRACE_PERIOD expires, the system shuts down and powers off.

Hopefully this makes it a bit clearer. If you need more info, please
contact me at [email protected].
