9942.0. "Handeling of lines longer than 80 characters" by MUNICH::CUZUM () Mon May 26 1997 08:22
Hi, folks,
when I do "ps aux" on a Digital Unix System running a version < V4.0 I
get the lines, which are longer than 80 characters, cut. I have to move
beyond the 80 char. limit or enlarge my screen to see them. Using the
same terminal emulation (e.g.: vt300) on Versions >= V4.0 my lines get
wrapped, so I can read the whole content without enlarging my screen.
So, where's the difference? What can I do for instance, to be able to
get correct "grep" results on versions < V4.0, without having to enlarge the
screen before? Or is this a bug, and then: where? Cause it isn't grep's.
Regards,
Corina

| 'COLUMNS=999 ps aux' will give you more

| Or use ps auxww - although this is probably not very portable.
