9927.0. "DECterm problem for root" by XKOV01::PAD () Fri May 23 1997 01:42

hi,
I am having problem with DECterm under Digital unix 3.2G at customer place.
   And system is Alphastation 255/233.
When i login as root the DECterm does'nt start at all.
When i click DECterm, at the DXconsole it shows "starting DECterm process
456",but DECterm does'nt come up. But if i logon as some other user
   DECterm comes up.

And graphics card used is powerstrom 4D/30 24 plane 16MB vram. After
putting this card, i booted with genvmunix(here also DECterm does'nt come up
and rebuilt the kernal. After rebooting from new kernal same problem persist.
And driver is loaded from SPL.All open 3D ver 3.2 and Zlxp drivers are
   loaded.

And with normal graphic (s3trio) this problem is not there.

-->But xterm comes up without any problem. And i tried to start DECterm manually
from /usr/bin/X11/dxterm it gives the following error
X error code Badmatch (invalid prameter attributes)
X error code Badwindow (invalid window parameter)
And i observed an entery in /usr/lib/X11/XErrorDB file
Xprotoerror 0: unknown error code 0
Xprotoerror 1:bad request (invalid requit code or no such operation)
Xprotoerror 2:bad pix map,bad font ,bad colour ....etc
Xprotoerror 17: bad implementation(server does not implement
operation !MultBuffering extension a draft X
                           constrouim standard).

Since application already loaded i cannot try reinstalling OS.
Is there any other alternative to solve this problem.

Can anybody can help me out to solve this problem.
   Thanks in Advance

with regards

Try renaming (or removing) the file /DXterm, and then starting DECterm.

Hello,

I have a customer with similar problem. Customer configuration :

    one DEC3000 3.2C
    one AS250 3.2C

Only one user cannot start decterm from as250. But ok on dec3000.

I solved these problem by deleting DXterm configuration file in the
home directory of the user and problem was solved.

I am investigating why but ... until now.... not yet understand why.

Problem is maybe that when saving DXterm configuration, DECterm takes
maybe a look into the O3D configuration.

My customer had O3D installed on the Dec3000 and not in the as250.

Hope that may help you,
